Revisiting Stewart–Gough platform applications: A kinematic pavilion

Stewart–Gough platforms are well known for their extraordinary kinematic motion and therefore they widely used as devices, ranging from flight simulators to microsurgical manipulators. However, have not yet been explored much architectural objects transformable spaces with regards irregular arrangements of legs associate structural performance. In the current study, an innovative application platform, implemented full-scale pavilion, namely Zero Gravity at Aalto University, Finland, is presented. During design process a 3–3 configuration was rearranged 6–6 configuration. The freedom in arrangement columns guided by its immanent effect on structure’s motion, stability, strength. We opted one telescopic leg only selection based four main criteria. Firstly, each stability different configurations investigated. Secondly, self-collision leg–leg, leg–roof, roof–floor investigated means physical computational models through pavilion. Thirdly, influenced force distribution six legs. Fourthly, path trajectory structure examined terms magnitude type feature. final choice conclusions drawn parametric studies. overall spatial qualities system validated
